With an ever-growing demand for vitamin C supplements, it’s a growing trend for people to opt for a product that offers it to help them stay hydrated, boost their skin health and reduce inflammation.
But is it safe?

Vitamin C is a chemical compound that is found naturally in some fruits and vegetables and has been used to treat skin conditions for centuries.
It is a skin protection agent and has also been used in cosmetics, cosmetics-enhancing creams and sun protection.
Vitamin D3 is also produced in the skin, but is considered to be of lower quality.
The World Health Organisation classifies it as a dietary supplement.
Many people opt for vitamin supplements because they believe they are more beneficial than regular skin care.
But new research has found that it is not only skin that is more important than the rest of the body.
According to a study by the Harvard School of Public Health, the vitamin C and vitamin D3 in the food we eat affects our immune systems, the balance of our blood sugar and our immune function.
We know that there are benefits to being healthy and the good skin we have helps keep us from getting sick, but we don’t realise the importance of being hydrated and well-hydrated, said Dr David Hirschberg, a clinical professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School.
“What we don`t realise is the importance in terms of how we heal, and that’s why we need to do more research on these benefits and whether it`s beneficial to eating healthy,” he said.
“We need to look at what the research shows, whether there are positive effects on the immune system.”
I think that it`ll be very interesting to see whether or not there are health benefits of the diet or lifestyle that may help improve the immune response, and also to see if vitamin C helps improve blood sugar levels, so that we can improve overall health,” he added.
Dr Hirschbergh said it is vital that the food that we eat, the food in our diet, is healthy and that we are getting enough vitamin C, vitamin D and minerals.”
The vitamin C in foods, especially in fruits and in certain vegetables, is quite high, so there`s quite a lot of vitamin C coming from foods,” he explained.”
There`s also vitamin D, which is important for a whole host of reasons.
“But in terms and proportions, vitamin C is not enough, vitamin, in terms that it can be taken in excess, so it is important that we take the right amount,” Dr Hirschberger said.
The study also looked at the effectiveness of vitamin D supplements and whether they helped with blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
“It was interesting to find that the vitamin D is not associated with a reduced risk of developing heart disease, but in the case of blood pressure, it actually increased,” Dr Daniela Carrasco, one of the study authors, told ABC News.
“In fact, people who were taking vitamin D2 had a 25 per cent lower risk of heart disease,” she said.
However, she said that it was important to consider the effects of other vitamins and minerals in addition to vitamin C.
“If you have a vitamin C deficiency, the only way you can get a vitamin D boost is to get vitamin D from the diet,” she explained.
Dr Carraso added that she was not convinced that taking vitamin C alone was the best way to boost your blood sugar, which can cause problems when you need to use medication to control your blood pressure.
“That`s a tricky question because we have a range of drugs, but you can actually do a lot with vitamin C,” she told ABC.
“You can do some things with it, but I think that vitamin C needs to be taken with a diet, a high protein, a balanced diet.”
So you need a balanced, low glycemic diet, like the Mediterranean diet,” Dr Carrasca said.
