Aussie beauty brand Aqua Bali has released a moisturising moisturiser that uses the natural agave sap as a skin whitener, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
The agave is known to be an antioxidant and its benefits include preventing free radicals from damaging your skin.
In the report, the company said it was inspired by the success of a product from a Brazilian cosmetic company called Aqua Bama.
The company was able to use a mixture of agave oil, seaweed extract and olive oil in the product, which it claims can provide an antioxidant, but the exact mechanism of action is unclear.
The product, called Aussie Skin Beauty, is described as “a natural, high-performance skin care product with a silky texture”.
The product is described by the Wall Street Times as a “mousse” in that it is meant to help your skin retain its moisture, but it’s not clear if the product’s moisturising properties are achieved through a combination of hydration and moisture.
The report noted that the product uses agave extracts, which are made from the seeds of the agave plant, which has anti-inflammatory properties, and olive oils, which have anti-oxidant and anti-fungal properties.
However, the paper also noted that some of the ingredients used in the moisturiser were also derived from coconut oil, which is not the only source of the product.
The Australian cosmetic company has been promoting its skin-whitening product on social media in recent weeks.
Aqua Bali did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Australian Financial Review.
A similar product from another Brazilian cosmetic brand, Pumila, was also released earlier this year, which claimed to use agaves sap as an anti-aging agent.
Aussie Skin has since pulled the product from its Instagram page, and Pumilla has since confirmed that the skin-enhancing products are no longer available.
A statement from Pumilia told the Australian Financial Press that “there are no ingredients in Aussie skin that are considered to be of any use in the skin whitening process”.
