How to prevent skin problems like acne?
It’s not about taking a pill, it’s about avoiding chemicals that cause it.
And, if you’re a human, the answer to that question is much simpler: a whole lot of things.
“We’ve tried to give the best information about how to prevent acne, but we don’t really know how to stop it,” says Sarah Macfarlane, a clinical associate professor at the University of Sydney.
So what’s a dermatologist to do?
Well, for starters, the good news is that there are a lot of products that will help you stop acne altogether, from anti-aging creams to moisturisers.
The bad news is, you need to look at the ingredients themselves and see if they’re actually harmful.

“It’s really important to look carefully at ingredients that we use and make sure that they are not carcinogenic,” says Dr Macflynks, who also works in the dermatology department at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
If you’re using the ingredients in question, look for the word “carcinogenic” in the ingredients list.
If not, then there’s no problem with using them as recommended.
